About Us

“The benefits of the ATC camps that I witnessed were broader than the skiing acumen, discipline and focus, but also encompassed caring for others, supporting and leading a team and the benefits of being in a team - all key skills for that important life journey”

Alpine Training Centre SCIO

Building kind, confident and resilient young people is the goal; the unique sport of ski racing is the transport system that takes them there.

When Sean and Lara Langmuir started organising ski camps more than a decade ago, it was largely to create a race-training environment for family and friends. With their own three kids excluded from the Scottish and Alpine ski camps that were being organised – because they were under 12 or hadn’t reached a specific standard – Sean and Lara saw a gap in the development opportunities open to aspiring young ski racers. So, in 2010, the Alpine Training Centre (ATC) was born.

Sean was perfectly positioned to take this step. He was coaching the British Children’s Team at the time and had years of experience running ski camps overseas, in Wanaka, New Zealand and in Canada. The guiding principle for those first ATC camps was inclusivity – and ATC’s ongoing aim is to give motivated young ski racers the chance to pursue their passion for skiing within a supportive community, one based on core values such as trust, hard work, responsibility and a sense of fun.

ATC is now one of the most successful ski-racing organisations in the UK, and the fact that the Scottish and British Ski Teams are filled with ATC alumni speaks for itself. Indeed, more than half of today’s selected Scottish Team athletes have trained with ATC – an enviable track record.

In 2021, ATC became a registered children’s charity, with one key objective being the opportunity to access funding and resources. Not only will this additional investment improve the breadth of training ATC offers, but it will also provide more kids with access to the sport, as well as enabling the team to build on the support it provides to ski racers and ski clubs.

Objectives

ATC aims to broaden and advance participation in ski racing by helping to make training and racing more accessible and affordable.

ATC encourages and nurtures the passion for competitive ski racing and love for the outdoors by providing accessibility to ski race training in environments that promote self learning and that encourage hard work. Our camps build confidence, teamwork, leadership and friendships. Our goal is to inspire and empower young adults to be the best they can be in sport and in life.

Why we do it

ATC provides the best training and racing camps available, and supports a ski racing pathway that goes from grassroots to the national team.

  • To help kids achieve their goals.

  • To make memories and friendships that will last a lifetime.

  • To motivate kids to work hard for what they want and to inspire them to believe that they can be next.

How we do it

We provide ski race camps year round for kids who are passionate about ski racing and want to get better.

We support kids with bursaries to attend ski camps.

By transitioning to a registered charity all ATC profits go straight back in to increasing value and quality for all camp racers.

What we do

ATC provides quality ski training and racing camps in the UK, Scotland and abroad.

By working together and supporting other Scottish ski clubs we build new friendships and a bigger and better ski racing community.

Since becoming a charity ATC has begun to fundraise for several bursaries. Bursaries are independently funded and specifically targeted at providing support to kids in need.
